Junior Courses FAQs
What should my junior player bring to their first class?
Your junior should bring a racket if they have one. If not, we have loaners available and sell them in our pro shop. Junior rackets are relatively inexpensive, but we recommend you come to us prior to purchase so we can size your kid with the right racket.
Kids should wear athletic attire and tennis shoes. Any athletic shoe with flat soles should suffice. Please avoid any shoe with a lot of traction, which can lead to rolled ankles.
Finally, bring plenty of water (and if playing outdoors, sun screen). If you forget water, we have bottled water available for purchase.
How do the sessions work?
Our junior courses run in sessions ranging from 5- to 8-weeks. You sign up for a particular day and time and attend that same day or time for the entire session.
Unless otherwise noted, the pricing on our website is the cost for attending one day per week. If your junior wants to attend more than one day per week (which we highly recommend!) you just add the cost for each day of the week.
If attending more than 2 hours of week of courses, we recommend signing up for a junior membership (discussed below).
What are the benefits of a Launchpad Junior Membership?
A junior membership gives you a 25% discount on our junior courses. Our courses break down to $20/hour for members, and $15/hour for non-members.
For instance, if your child attends 3-hours of courses per week, this saves you $15 per week. Since the junior membership is only $43.10 per month, the savings can add up quick the more programming your kid attends!
Membership also gives your junior free walk-on time where any time a court is available, they can come to the club and hit for free.
Please see here for more details.
What happens if my kid needs to miss a day?
We get it! You and your kids have busy lives, and sometimes you just can’t make it to tennis. Our make-up policy allows for up to 2 make-up classes per session, where your child can attend a class on another day of the week.
All we ask is that you give us at least 24-hours notice if possible. Classes must be made up within the same session and be at the same level. All make-ups are subject to availability.
Red, Orange, Green, Yellow, Oh My (I’m confused)!
For younger students, Launchpad uses compression balls to allow for a slower moving lower bouncing ball to create a more successful environment for learning. The slower the ball, the more emphasis on technique.
Red Balls (75% reduced ball speed) are used for our youngest beginner players (ages 5-8), then Orange Balls (50% reduced ball speed) for kids a bit older or more advanced, and finally Green Balls (25% reduced ball speed) for kids almost ready to start playing with a traditional Yellow Ball.
Yellow Ball is what most people know as a traditional tennis ball. The balls at this level are used in the majority of adult matches and at the professional level.
Can I stay and watch?
Absolutely (if your kiddo will let you)! We have bleachers and chairs set up for viewing, and Wi-Fi available if you’d like to sneak in some work while you do so.
What level is appropriate for my child?
If your junior is brand new to tennis, we recommend taking our beginner classes based on their age: Red Ball - 5-8 years old; Orange Ball - 8-11 years old; Yellow Ball 12-18 years old.
If your player has some tennis experience, please contact us with details of prior experience and level and we can figure out the perfect class together.
